The interactive test results below offer a glimpse inside the testing that is conducted with each oil in the second edition of the "Study of Motorcycle Oils".  We will feature different tests on the page from time to time. If you want to know how all of the oils did on every test, you can download the entire document above.

Volatility (Evaporation) (ASTM D-5800) SAE 50 Results
1. Higher temperatures produce greater volatility (evaporation).
2. Increased volatility causes increased oil consumption and emissions.
3. Oil is first heated to 250° C for a period of 60 minutes.
4. Air is drawn through the container holding the oil sample to remove vapor.
5. After 60 minutes, the remaining oil volume is weighed.

6. Comparison to initial oil weight.
7. A lower weight loss score indicates better performance.

To see how other oils compared to the AMSOIL products, simply click on their names on the left side of each graph, and their color-coded results will display.

Viscosity Shear Stability (ASTM D-6278)

1. Oil's initial viscosity is measured.
2. Oil is tested under shearing forces.
3. Measurements are taken at the end of 15, 30 and 90 cycles.
4. Comparison to initial oil viscosity.
5. A flatter line indicates a better shear stability.

Lubrication Nation: AMSOIL introduces OE Synthetic Motor Oil

Lubrication Nation: AMSOIL introduces OE Synthetic Motor Oil

AMSOIL introduces OE Synthetic Motor Oil

AMSOIL announces a new line of attractively priced synthetic oils available in three different viscosities. OE Synthetic Motor Oils provide excellent protection and performance throughout the entire length of original equipment manufacturers’ recommended drain intervals.

AMSOIL OE Synthetic Motor Oils, fortified with friction modifiers, are designed to provide better fuel economy compared to conventional motor oils and reduce friction-related energy loss. It promotes proper operation of catalytic converters for optimum service life and low exhaust emissions. It is fortified with high levels of detergent and dispersant additives to resist sludge and carbon deposits, promoting clean operation for longer lasting engines.

An increasing number of vehicle manufacturers are recommending drain intervals beyond the traditional 3,000 miles with some recommending up to 12,000 miles with electronic oil monitoring systems. AMSOIL OE Synthetic Motor Oils resist chemical breakdown for maximum wear protection(and peace of mind) well beyond the traditional 3,000 mile oil change interval.

OE Synthetic Motor Oils are a cost-effective alternative to conventional motor oils while furnishing vehicles with the same high and low temperature protection, increased fuel economy and better wear control as other leading AMSOIL synthetic motor oils.

AMSOIL OE Synthetic Motor Oils are available in SAE 5W-20, 5W-30 and 10W-30 viscosities in quarts, 30- and 55-gallon drums and 275 gallon totes. The new competitively priced motor oil is rated API SN, ILSAC GF-5, with the SAE 5W-30 viscosity recommended for the new GM dexos1 specification.
Recommended for use in all types of gasoline-fueled engines.

Amsoil wins at SEMA

SEMA ANNOUNCES NEW PRODUCT SHOWCASE AWARD WINNERS
DIAMOND BAR, Calif. (Nov. 2, 2010) - SEMA, the Specialty Equipment Market Association, announced the winners of the New Products Showcase Awards at the New Products Awards Breakfast held this week at the 2010 SEMA Show. The event serves as a kickoff just prior to the official opening of the show, and it recognizes the most cutting-edge automotive products either on the market or about to hit the market. This year, there were more than 2,000 new products submitted for consideration.
Criteria that ranked high on the judges' selection for the New Product Showcase Awards included superiority of innovation, technical achievement, quality and workmanship, consumer appeal and marketability.
The 2010 New Product Award Winners include:
Best New Powersports Product
Winner: AMSOIL, AMSOIL Quickshot SE
AMSOIL Quickshot SE (AQS) is a premium fuel additive formulated to thoroughly clean and restore peak performance in small engine and powersports equipment fuel systems. It also stabilizes fuel between uses and during short-term storage periods. Its revolutionary technology focuses on three major fuel-related issues plaguing small engines and powersports equipment: ethanol, water and dirty pump gas.
Applications
Quickshot SE is recommended for use in all two- and four-stroke gasoline-powered engines, including motorcycles, snowmobiles, boats, personal watercraft, ATVs, edgers, tillers, mowers, snowblowers, chainsaws, generators and farm and construction equipment. However, AMSOIL P.i. Performance Improver is the superior choice for passenger vehicle applications.
Recommendations
Quickshot SE is designed for an initial clean-up dose of 8 oz. per 6 gallons of gasoline, followed by 8 oz. per 12 gallons thereafter.

I use Quickshot SE in all of my mowers, trimmers, blowers, leaf vac, snowblowers, logsplitter...it really does work!
